Janet Mock Signs Multi-Million Dollar Deal With Netflix, Making History

FX Pose director, producer and writer Janet Mock, 36 , signed a three-year deal with Netflix.

Mock, will be the first black transgender woman to sign with a major content company. The agreement includes Mock to produce new series exclusively for Netflix, which will grant the streaming company the first-look at her feature projects.

Also, included in the deal, Mock will serve as an executive producer and director on Ryan Murphy’s forth-coming Netflix series Hollywood.

“There’s potential to introduce hundreds of millions of viewers to trans people, and showing people who may not understand us, that we can tell our own stories,” Mock said in a video on one of Netflix’s Twitter accounts.

Despite the new multi-million dollar deal with Netflix, Mock will still hold her title as a writer-director on the FX series Pose, an LGBTQ drama set in New York.

FX drama Pose has been renewed for a third season, the network announced on Tuesday.
