Obama Voices Support To The American People

The 44th President had a few words to share.

With the country hurting from George Floyd’s death, Former President Barack Obama decided to lend his support to the American people.

Obama addressed the country Wednesday during a virtual town hall meeting praising those who have peacefully protested throughout the nation – expressing this kind of action will being about the long overdue change needed in the United States.

“There is a change of mindset that is taking place, a greater recognition that we can do better,” Obama said, adding that the movement was not being brought about by politicians or by the media.

“That’s a direct result of the activities and organization and mobilization and engagement of so many young people across the country who put themselves out on the line to make a difference,” he continued.

Despite calling out President Trump, Obama urges the youth to make those in power feel “uncomfortable”, we all witness the violent acts, protesting and looting that has brought on cites which resulted in curfews being enforced.

Also, addressed by the former president was the unjust killing of 46-year old, George Floyd, who died at the hands of Minneapolis police, adding that the unequal treatment of many black Americans is still an issue.

“This shouldn’t be ‘normal’ in 2020 America. It can’t be ‘normal. If we want our children to grow up in a nation that lives up to its highest ideals, we can and must be better,” says Obama.

Mr. Obama also urged local leaders to take immediate action.

“Today, I’m urging every mayor in this country to review your use of force policies with members of your community and commit to report on planned reforms,” he said.

Mr. Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama are both slated to participate in a “Dear Class of 2020” virtual graduation event on Saturday, June 6.
